Before Last of Us 2 was indefinitely delayed, it was intended to release in May. However, due to circumstances caused by the coronavirus, the game was delayed with no date. Fans can now expect to play The Last of Us 2 on June 19, far sooner than some had anticipated considering the cause of the delay. Still, that should excite fans, even if major spoilers are now in the wild.

Unfortunately, there’s also some not so great news. Originally intended to release in June, Ghost of Tsushima has been pushed back to July 17th, about a month after it was supposed to release. The move should allow both games to have some breathing room, ensuring that neither steps on the other’s toes. Plus, it makes sense that PlayStation would want Last of Us 2 out first. It’s arguably the more anticipated game, and the leaks mean that it’s at risk of being ruined for some of its audience.
Hopefully, there won’t be any more delays for either title. The uncertain nature of global supply chains is cause for some concern, but given The Last of Us 2’s development timeline, it seems incredibly likely that at least it will hit. Ghost of Tsushima has also been progressing for years, so its date seems fairly reliable too, assuming physical copies can be manufactured and shipped in time.
Naughty Dog has been working away at The Last of Us 2 for years, though some have called out Naughty Dog’s crunch culture of late, with the studio reportedly having trouble keeping veteran developers due to working conditions. Some believe an angry employee is responsible for The Last of Us 2’s plot leaking, and considering the footage, that seems pretty likely.
For now, all anyone can do is wait and try to avoid spoilers. The games really aren’t that far away now, and should be an amazing sendoff for the PS4’s final year.
The Last of Us 2 will release on June 19th, 2020, for PS4.
