Despite earlier statements from Naughty Dog that clearly explained the company had no plans to release a PS4 port for the game, it seems like Naughty Dog has been hard at work on the Remastered edition since the PS3 version launched. Although it makes sense that Naughty Dog would want to keep the project under wraps until the company was sure a finished product of the port would see the light of day - or at least until they sold the maximum amount possible on PS3 - it does seem a bit suspicious that official representatives denied plans for the game months after developers were working on it. Holding out on official confirmation of the game for so long definitely created a substantial amount of hype any time details were leaked, but after all the misinformation, gamers may have a harder time trusting the word of Naughty Dog moving forward. It’s certainly not the responsibility of developers and publishers to keep consumers informed about every project the companies consider producing, but there’s no denying that the word of Naughty Dog may not be taken quite as seriously after this series of denials, leaks, and secrets.

In addition to the eye-opening development timeline, Wells also spoke to some of the improvements that the Remastered release will bring to the game that is currently only about a year old…

We’ve already seen the kind of stunning visual improvements that a next-gen remake can bring to games that were released at the tail end of the last console generation (like Tomb Raider), so we have no doubt that gamers with a keen eye for graphics and presentation will enjoy revisiting the emotional roller coaster that is The Last of Us. Whether gamers feel burned or not by Naughty Dog holding out precious intel from them during the past year, we have no doubt The Last of Us will continue racking up sales when the Remastered edition drops this summer.
