Throughout the relatively relaxed chapter, Ellie and Joel can have a number of conversations relating to their search and about life before Outbreak Day, providing further insight into the character’s state of mind. Also to be found are a variety of optional conversations between the pair, which will reward the player with unlockable extras and progress towards the “Getting to Know You” trophy. This guide will show players where to find all three optional conversations available in this chapter.

The University | Go Big Horns

Conversation 1 of 2

While proceeding into the university on horseback, pass by the explorable campus building with the Flamethrower on the right and jump over a barbed wire barrier; look for a large Bighorns banner and a mascot painting on a brick wall to the left. Riding up to it will trigger a conversation prompt.

Conversation 2 of 2

After entering the main square with the statue and seeing the monkeys, take the left or right path in the far side corners to progress. Before passing through another blocked tunnel and into the dormitories, there are three spots where Ellie can point out some Firefly graffiti that Joel can talk about.

One is along the red brick left wall of the right-most path, another is directly ahead of the last, while the final one is just left of the blocked tunnel.

The University | Science Building

Conversation 1 of 1

Later, the duo will climb their way into the Science Building using a dumpster and make their way through some empty hallways. Exiting onto a veranda, they will make their way around and into a lobby by a flight of stairs. Here, Joel and Ellie can find a clipboard on some boxes to the right that the player can interact with.

The Last of Us Part 1 is currently available on PS5 and is in development for PC.
