Throughout The Last of Us Part 1, players can find optional conversations that help organically grow characters outside of cutscenes and combat areas. Helping to tell the award-winning story, players are encouraged to engage with this dialogue by being rewarded with points for unlockable extras and a trophy for finding them all. Optional conversations are triggered by approaching a character in a specific area and interacting with them; by default, this is with the Triangle button on PlayStation 5. This guide will show players where to trigger all four conversations in the Tommy’s Dam chapter to help unlock the “Getting to Know You” achievement. As the two make their way towards the town, the first optional conversations can be found after completing a short puzzle involving raising dam barriers to cross a river.

Tommy’s Dam | Hydroelectric Dam
Conversation 1 of 4
A little while into this chapter, Ellie and Joel will activate a dam barrier to cross it. After giving (or not giving) Ellie a high-five, head around a rock to the left and approach a small grave with a teddy bear atop it. Follow the on-screen prompts for a conversation cut short by Joel.
Conversation 2 of 4
Upon reuniting with Tommy and entering the dam, head forwards across the courtyard and toward the horses. Here, talk to Ellie about her own horse-riding skills.
Conversation 3 of 4
After separating from Ellie and Maria, continue to follow Tommy through the dam to the bunk beds and interact with him to start a conversation.
Conversation 4 of 4
Head upstairs and out onto the walkways overlooking the dam, following Tommy about halfway. Before reaching the gate and Buckley the dog, take a right and speak with a guard holding a rifle.
The Last of Us Part 1 is currently available for PS5, and is in development for PC.
