For the uninitiated, The Legend of Korra takes place decades after the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender, following the story of Aang’s successor, the titular Korra. Various characters from the previous show make appearances in The Legend of Korra, but the show mostly focuses on the title character and her new adventures. Similarly to its predecessor, The Legend of Korra earned critical-acclaim at the time of its release and is considered a fan favorite.

Some may be wondering why Netflix is suddenly promoting older cartoons like Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, but there’s a good reason for it. Netflix actually has plans to create a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series for its streaming service, and so this way it can introduce more people to the franchise and build up additional hype for the new show.
If The Legend of Korra manages to be as popular as Avatar is on Netflix, then maybe the company will consider adapting it into a live-action TV series at some point down the line as well.
The Legend of Korra premieres on Netflix beginning August 14.
