A new piece of artwork was tweeted out recently on the official Japanese The Legend of Zelda Twitter account, and it features Link climbing a mountain that strongly resembles a giant pumpkin, as well as the caption “Happy Halloween”. This is a small but welcome update from Nintendo about the upcoming Zelda installment, which has received a fresh wave of attention recently thanks to the release of some stunning new Breath of the Wild gameplay footage just a couple of weeks ago.

This isn’t the first time that the Zelda social team have taken to Twitter to generate some buzz for Breath of the Wild. Nintendo of America tweeted out a number of eye-catching gameplay videos a couple of months ago, some of which highlighted the game’s new rune abilities and some which cover the series’ tried and true bow and arrow mechanic.
While it remains to be seen whether the giant pumpkin-shaped mountain will feature in the final game, pumpkins will feature in one mechanic that’s a first for the series. Last month, Nintendo released two new videos focusing on Link’s new ability to cook, which means that should our Hero of Time not have any giant pumpkins (or pumpkin-shaped mountains) to climb, he’ll at least be feasting on them.
Of course, the presence of pumpkins and pumpkin-shaped mountains is but a small detail in the future success of Breath of the Wild. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto has previously stated that the upcoming action-adventure title will have to sell 2 million units to be considered successful, an ambitious target for a game that’s been in development for a long period of time. However, given the positive reception that the game has received throughout 2016’s major gaming events, such as E3 and gamesom 2016, Breath of the Wild has given itself a chance of having its pumpkin and eating it as well.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is scheduled for release in March 2017 for Wii U and Switch.
